Home Tours

History waits around every corner in Richmond, and not just in the city's many wonderful museums. The homes of Richmond often have a great deal of history behind them as well, and the holiday season is an excellent time to discover some of the most historic homes in the city. Holiday house tours are a popular tradition in Richmond, with tours near both Richmond homes for sale and Petersburg homes for sale available during the holiday season. Our real estate agents have all of the details on 2 historic home tours that will introduce you to Richmond's architectural beauty.

  • Fan District Association Holiday House Tour
The annual Fan District Association Holiday House Tour will take place this year on December 9 & 10, 2023, from 12:00–5:00 PM each day. Since the Fan Area Historic District was primarily developed during the early 1900s, many of the historic homes that you'll see here come from that era of architecture. One of the cool things about this tour is that it features a very wide variety of homes, from quaint family dwellings to grand, impressive estates.

The diversity of historic homes in the Fan District makes this part of Richmond an especially good place for a holiday house tour. You'll have the chance to explore homes from many different architectural styles, including Victorian, Tudor Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Art Deco, Spanish Colonial, and many more. When you purchase your ticket, you'll also receive a map that details all of the homes that will be included on this year's tour.

You can purchase those tickets in advance online, or in person on the day of the tour. Visit the FDA office at 208 Strawberry St. on the day of the tour to pick up your reserved tickets, or purchase tickets in person. This is also where you'll find the hospitality centers, restroom facilities, and parking for the event. Proceeds from the event support a variety of neighborhood initiatives, including school projects and park refurbishments.

  • Church Hill Association Holiday House Tour
This year marks the 57th edition of the Church Hill Association Holiday House Tour, which visits a dazzling selection of historic homes, businesses, and churches in the neighborhood. This tour takes place on December 10, 2023, with tickets available online or in person. A free trolley is available to take you from one historic destination to the next, providing a convenient way to see every location on the list.

Stops on this year's Church Hill Association Holiday House Tour include St. John's Church Parish Hall, the historic Dear Neighbor shop, Richmond Fire Station Number 1, St. Patrick Catholic Church, and 8 privately owned historic homes in the neighborhood. Each location comes with its own story, with the oldest home on the tour being constructed in 1859.

Of course, there will be plenty of holiday cheer as part of this tour, as well. Many of the homes on the tour will be decorated to the nines for the holidays, and a crew of carolers, dressed in period-appropriate costumes, will be traveling from one home to the next singing your favorite classic holiday tunes. It all adds up to an experience that you won't want to miss this holiday season.
