  One of two year-round ice rinks in the Richmond area that offer public skating, Richmond Ice Zone is best known for its hockey programs. It hosts the University of Richmond Hockey and various youth and adult leagues, as well as learn-to-skate classes that are great for beginners as well as experienced skaters who want to freshen up their skills before dusting off their old skates.   Located just a few miles northwest of Richmond, SkateNation Plus is the sister rink to Richmond Ice Zone. It offers similar amenities, including a regulation-size hockey rink that is used by various local hockey clubs and leagues. SkateNation Plus also hosts figure skating and beginner's ice skating classes. Each learn-to-skate class includes eight 30-minute group lessons with free skate rentals and four complimentary public skate session passes.   The Southampton Recreation Association offers Richmond's only private, fully enclosed ice skating rink. Since 1950, the Southampton Recreation Association has been an excellent venue for fun and affordable family activities, from skating and swimming to tennis and pickleball. Facilities are open to members, and a variety of membership options are available (including "ice only" membership for those who just want to skate). The ice rink also hosts a variety of programs for all ages, including skating lessons and hockey clinics.
